Drapery in Education Facilities
In 1999, concerns about the flammability of drapery/curtains in education facilities were raised. As a result, the Education Safety Association of Ontario arranged to have investigative screening tests performed at that time. Theatre Safety Consultants of Hamilton was contracted to collect samples and make arrangements for a neutral third party test site. The site chosen was the Chemistry Department at McMaster University.
The following three reports outline the testing procedures and the subsequent results. The tests concluded that all 15 field samples were in compliance with the NFPA 705 Match Flame Test. The Education Safety Association of Ontario feels that the samples tested met the Fire Code requirements and no further tests are planned.
