Health and safety training is a proactive approach to accident prevention.
This workshop has been developed by ESAO as an introduction to
Workplace Health and Safety in Ontario for use by clients of ESAO and Human
Resources managers.
This workshop utilizes the orientation participant booklets in conjunction with the orientation PowerPoint presentation
and will highlight the more important features of a health and safety program.
One Health and Safety orientation workshop CD will be given to the organization to assist
it in presenting their own onsite workshops. The CD contains the PowerPoint presentation, Leaders Guide and
handouts. The organization will be able to purchase the participant booklets for future workshops.
THE OBJECTIVES OF HEALTH AND SAFETY ORIENTATION ARE:
- To gain a basic understanding of Occupational Health and Safety legislation along with the rights, responsibilities and duties of each of the workplace parties.
- To identify where written procedures or rules should apply to a job, and ensure that staff feel comfortable asking supervisors for this information.
- To understand what a joint health and safety committee is, and how it is structured.
- To be introduced to the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information
System, or WHMIS, and some potential hazards in the workplace.
- To discover the importance of accident and hazard reporting, and what to do when an injury occurs.
