INTRODUCTION

The Education Safety Association of Ontario is hosting the OH&S Information Package for use in Ontario schools. In many school boards worker members of the Joint Health and Safety Committee(s), who have completed Certification Training, are conducting workplace inspections. One important aspect of the Certification Training is the topic of workplace inspections. The Information Package is designed to present basic health and safety information for school health and safety workplace inspectors who have not received Certification Training. The material contained in the package will provide the health and safety workplace inspectors with the tools necessary to identify potential hazards in the workplace and report the concerns to the principal/supervisor and to the Joint Health and Safety Committee.

The Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (the Act) is the minimum standard for health and safety in the workplace.  The Act requires that the workplace, or part of the workplace, be inspected once per month.

THE INFORMATION CONTAINED IN THIS PACKAGE
DOES NOT REPLACE
THE EDUCATION SECTOR CERTIFICATION TRAINING PROGRAM.

While the Education Safety Association of Ontario (ESAO) provides this information as a service, it was developed with the support of both the Ontario Catholic School Trustees Association and the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association.

The package concludes with a QUIZ that allows the participant to assess their understanding of the material covered. ESAO has also included a registration and comment section – all participants are asked to provide input so that the package can be improved and updated.
