1. Joint Health and Safety Committees are made up of worker and management members.
2. A committee member is expected to inspect the workplace or part of the workplace once a month.
3. The committee member selected by the worker members of the Joint Health and Safety Committee to carry out the workplace inspections must be a worker not a supervisor or manager.
4. The Education Act does not impose any responsibility for safety.
5. Employers and supervisors have responsibilities under the Occupational Health and Safety Act but the workers do not have any responsibilities.
6. Workplace inspections are not a key aspect of an effective health and safety program.
7. The Board and principal as an agent of the Board are required to provide information and assistance to the school health and safety inspector who carries out the workplace inspection.

13. First Aid can be administered by anyone, even someone without a First Aid Certificate.
14. The names and location of certified First Aiders must be posted next to a first aid kit or station.
15. Mechanical general ventilation is supplied to a room through diffusers usually located in the ceiling.
16. Mechanical local exhaust takes away the hazardous vapour, smoke or mist etc., before it reaches the worker or student's breathing zone.
17. If a science, art or photography project requires local exhaust and it is not available in the school, the teacher can go ahead with the project anyway.
18. If there is a hazard of injury to the head, hands, eyes, hearing etc., personal protective equipment should be used or worn.
19. The workplace WHMIS label on laboratory bottles containing chemical solutions need only identify the chemical by its chemical formula.
20. The WHMIS regulation requires that training be given to any worker who may be handling, storing or using products containing hazardous chemicals (controlled products).
