The American Center for Disease Control working with USA Hockey has developed information packages about concussions for coaches, parents, and athletes involved in youth sports.

Review of Workplace Safety System in Ontario

 

Ontario will appoint Tony Dean as chair of an Expert Advisory Panel to conduct a comprehensive review of the province's occupational health and safety prevention and enforcement system.

The panel will research best-in-class approaches to improving workplace safety in national and international jurisdictions and will look at a range of issues including:

  • Continuum of safety practices in a workplace and entry-level safety training

  • Impact of the underground economy on health and safety practices

  • How existing legislation serves worker safety

Part of the review will be supported by the Institute for Work & Health, a globally renowned and independent research centre for occupational health and safety.

Certification Program Review

Public input sought by the WSIB as part of the Review of the Joint Health and Safety Committee Certification Program.

Deadline for submissions is February 5, 2010.

The WSIB is reviewing the Joint Health and Safety Committee Certification Standards and Program.  A Certification Review Committee was created to provide advice to the WSIB regarding the review and implementation of improvements.  The Committee met between March 3, 2009 and June 10, 2009 and a consultation document has been created by the WSIB using input from the committee.

The WSIB is now undertaking a public consultation and interested parties are invited to provide comment on the issues and opportunities discussed in the consultation paper.

CCOHS Hosting Forum III: Leading the Change

The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) is hosting Forum III: Leading the Change, a two-day national event, taking place on March 8 and 9, 2010, in the National Capital Region. This conference is a two-day tripartite, national event that will bring together subject experts, workers, employers, and governments to share their knowledge and experience around the rapidly evolving workplace. Forum III provides an opportunity for participants to explore and better understand how leadership in the workplace can significantly impact the health and safety needs of workers.
