A proactive response by your association to improve Educational Assistant's orientation!

This CD has been developed by ESAO as an introduction to Special Education in Ontario for use by clients of ESAO. It is intended to support all staff employed in a special education setting and is the foundation of the broad training for all special education staff.

This CD contains an overview of Occupational Health and Safety that will assist Educational Assistants’ understanding and application of basic rights and responsibilities and the duties of the employer. This training program will serve as a foundation for continued training, which should ultimately should include Health and Safety training specific to the workplace.

The goal of this Special Education CD is to highlight some important features of legislation that deals with special education and workplace safety

Voiceover narration highlights key information throughout the CD-ROM and the interactive visual components and imbedded links ensure that the content is accurate, relevant, interesting and easy to understand.

After navigating through the three modules the employee should:

• Gain the ability to identify where written procedures or rules should apply to the job and feel comfortable asking a supervisor for this information.
• Understand his/her rights and responsibilities under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
• Gain new insight into the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) and other potential hazards in the workplace.
• Understand the teamwork required for successful special education.
• Have the ability to identify the training that should be provided in various circumstances.

Self-assessment tools are included in this CD and a final quiz prints out, providing the employer and employee with a certificate of completion for their records. Click here for system requirements
